Heidi Cruz heading to N.J. on Wednesday

Heidi Cruz, the wife of Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, will visit New Jersey on Wednesday, ahead of the state's June 7 primary, the campaign announced Tuesday.

She is scheduled to hold events in Wayne, Medford and Freehold, while her husband is in neighboring Pennsylvania. Heidi Cruz, an investment manager at Goldman Sachs, was slated to visit the state in March but a scheduling conflict forced a postponement.

Donald Trump leads in opinion polls for New Jersey's 51 delegates, which awarded en masse to the winner of the primary.

A new poll shows where Trump stands among N.J. Republican voters.

A Rutgers-Eagleton survey poll released Monday gave Trump 52 percent, followed by Ohio Gov, John Kasich with 24 percent and Cruz, a U.S. senator from Texas, with 18 percent.

New Jersey could make the difference between the billionaire businessman winning a first-ballot victory at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July, or falling short and losing support as delegates defect to Cruz and others during later votes.

The trip comes a day after the New York primary. Cruz attacked "New York values" during the debates, voted against helping New York and New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy, and opposed the spending bill that included the Zadroga Act to provide medical coverage and compensation for first responders at the World Trade Center site after 9/11.

Before the Utah primary, an anti-Trump super political action committee released an ad featuring a scantily clad photo of his wife, Melania, in attempt to lure Mormon voters away from the GOP front-runner.

Trump then said on Twitter that he would "spill the beans" on Heidi Cruz. He also tweeted a unflattering photo of Heidi Cruz next to a striking picture of Melania Trump.

Cruz won the Utah primary March 26, and the next day went on "Fox News Sunday" to criticize Trump's actions.

"He used that as an excuse, the fact that someone else who I don't know and have no involvement with used a deplorable ad — he used that as an excuse to go after my wife Heidi, to go after my family, to attack her directly," Cruz said. "Attacking spouses and children is off-limits. It has no place in politics."
